Welcome to our family Little Leidy

Leidy weighs about 1 1/2 pounds. She is a Shorkie. Her Mother-purebred Shih Tzu, Father-purebred Yorkie..... meaning she has the cuddly family-friendly aspects of a Shih tzu, but the small size and playfulness of a Yorkie. She's on the left.  Isn't she so adorable???  We went and looked at several different puppies that I liked.... but none were as cute, nor had such a sweet demeanor as Leidy did.  Loves to cuddle AND loves to play.  Perfect combination.  I really started to tear up when I got her.... such a special moment.
Sweetest.Puppy.Ever.  Happy 3 years honey...... remember  the stuffed puppy Jason gave me here?  Well, the funny thing is not only is it bigger than Leidy, but it sleeps with her in her crate every night. He bought it in an effort to NOT get me a puppy.... but then he gave in.  So now I have a real puppy AND a stuffed puppy. Both of which fit in my purse at the same time.  Speaking of purses....
Here is one of my favorite casual purses..... With a surprise sleeping inside in the photo below.
I won't tell you where I was while she was sleeping in my purse in order to not have harsh judgement passed on me..... but I have an excuse because I was afraid for her life considering the company in which she would have found herself.  Jason has an aunt with very young children..... and after We watched them drop their 5 pound bunny on its head three times (5 pounds means, almost 5x bigger than Leidy).... I decided I wasn't going to risk leaving the puppy at home for them to find and "play" with her.

She is such a cuddle bug.  I love it!  Here she is wrapped in a bath towel. She loves to play and run around for about 20 minutes, and then cuddle for like 2 hours.  It's perfect.
Made a bow for her hair because I was sick of people asking me how much "he" weighed and how old "he" was.  Too bad she only wore this bow for 5-10 minutes before shaking it out.  I even tried placing one bow on each side to see if equal weight displacement would make the bows less noticeable..... but the theory didn't work.  "A" for sincere effort.

BUT I will say.... when everyone told me that having a puppy was like having a baby, I didn't truly understand until I experienced it.  I have been getting up 3-5x per night with Leidy to take her outside (small bladder--downside of a small puppy).  It has been so tough.... then potty training is another issue in and of itself.  Everyday I ask myself WHY is the carpet so much more fun to be on than the outside surroundings?   I seriously have felt like I need to take Maternity leave to take care of my puppy.  Jason is so sweet and has offered to get up with her... but he made me promise before I got her that since I was the one who wanted her that I would claim sole responsibility. Accordingly when it comes to overnight duties, that's what I've done even though he continues to be a sweetheart and regularly offer.  Everyone says it gets better..... and last night it did. First night in 6 that Leidy has slept through the entire night (and I slept like a baby).  I was so scared when I woke up to my alarm and not her crying, especially since the night before I woke up with her 6 times.  I went to her cage right away(not far, seeing as how she sleeps next to my side of the bed), and she was just sitting there.... with no accidents in the cage either!!! It was a tender mercy! .... though I'm not going to count my chicken's before they hatch either because I have heard until 6 months of age puppies usually need to get up every 4 hours..... however every 4 hours is better than every 1 1/2 to 2.... so I have something to which I can look forward!

  2. You got a puppy! Dogs are the most wonderful thing ever. In fact, I just asked Bob if we can get another puppy. He said 'maybe,' and I'm already starting to look for another furry creature to bring home. Enjoy her! She'll start sleeping longer and longer.
