Every year we have the resolution to go to at least
one new restaurant a month. Problem---with our announced move, we don’t
have much time to go to our 12 new restaurants in Phoenix!! We LOVE the
food here, so even though we could rationalize and still go to “one new
restaurant a month” after moving…. We don’t want to miss out on the opportunity
to try new places here (because they are all SO good). So we are trying to
get in 12 new restaurants before we leave mid February. Yikes!!
We went on a food/restaurant tour that is really
helping out with that goal because we went to 4 restaurants in one night. It was put on by Urban Olive Oils. we started out with a little sampling. I had no idea there were so many flavors of olive oil and balsamic vinegar! They served us a sampling of carmel flavored balsamic vinegar over vanilla ice cream.... and it was REALLY good.
Because it was a walking tour of downtown we
learned some cool facts—like the fact Phoenix has a star walk of fame.
Who
knew? Downtown Phoenix has several underground tunnels that went between the
big hotels during the Prohibition in the 20’s and 30’s where individuals could
go to underground bars, and high society individuals like Marilyn Monroe and
JFK often found themselves in adjacent hotels for the same weekends…fill in the
blank…curse those hotel ledgers, telling all your secrets. haha J
Anyway, we are well on our way to achieving this
goal. We have already been to:
1) St. Francis—Modern restaurant
2) Athens Greek Gyros
Easting outside since we had Leidy with us :). She was cold and cuddling with Jason in his jacket.
3) Moira Sushi
4) Seasons
52
5) America’s Taco Shop
6) Bonjour
Vietnam
7) My Big Fat Greek
Flaming cheese---Opa!
Biggest.Water.Cups.Ever
8) 1130
9) The District
What is that you ask? A cream cheese filled date wrapped in bacon and glazed with a maple sauce. It was interesting.... but actually pretty tasty. It was that whole sweet and salty thing.
9 down.... That means only three more to go in three weeks to reach our goal. Totally doable….
Especially when we start packing and I don’t feel like cooking anymore .... but then again, I don't really feel like cooking now anyway ;).
That looks like way too much fun!! I'd love to go on a restaurant tour!
