Jason purchased me a laptop when I began grad school.... My MacBookPro and I have become pretty attached and have been through almost 3 years together with no problems... with the exception of "User Errors".... Like the time I accidentally shut a bobby pin in my computer and totally cracked the lcd screen! Yikes! Could have been an expensive repair were it not for the combination of my "AppleCare Plan" and the young innocent college kid in the Apple store who took compassion on me when I batted my eyelashes at him while giving him a puppy dog look (sounds complicated right? That's because it is. It's taken me many years to get that look down.)
Needless to say, I am pretty attached to MacBeth :). So when Jason informed me he was going to take my laptop for grad school I was devastated. I had to buy myself something to aid the "separation anxiety"...... so I bought myself a "graduation" present:
A 27" IMac with essentially all the upgrades I could add on so that I would not have to part from this computer any time soon. It feels kind of weird sitting in front of it because it feels like a TV.... then I remember all those times when I was young and my mother Always told me "DON'T SIT TOO CLOSE TO THE TV OR YOU WILL GO BLIND!!!!"...... so hopefully I don't go blind. I find myself with arms extended from our table when typing in order to not be too close to the screen. lol.
Speaking of TABLES.... We made a big step for ourselves last month. We bought a kitchen table! We have been putting it off for so long because we didn't know how long we were going to be in this place.... but now that we have been here for 9 months together (Jason for 1 year).... and now Jason has started his grad program and I am liking not having to commute to my job, we realize we may be in this tiny place for a little while. ACCORDINGLY, we made a big move and took our Huge LoveSac to storage (which we had been using to sit on) and our cooler with built in cup holders on top (used for the table) to open up some space. We bought this handy little table from Ikea that was perfect because in the future it could just serve as patio furniture in the future when we do move to a bigger place.
AMAZING how it feels SO much more like home with a kitchen table! Also, we feel more freedom to invite people over for games/dinner now that we have a place to sit besides the couch (even though our couch is Awesome and comfy.... doesn't do the job for dinner/games)..... and I love that the kitchen table can double as a second desk (as shown in the picture).
Other happenings....
GIRLS CAMP!!!!! Yup... new calling. Not sure how they found me, but they did. I have been saying lately that I have actually have some free time with Jason in grad school to go to the gym (including: cycling, rumba, and just working out period) and not feel guilty for leaving him.... I shouldn't have said that out loud.... I probably shouldn't have even thought it..... because now I will have less free time to "worry" about. Doh! I was called as the Assistant Stake Girl's Camp Director. This should be interesting.... seeing as how I haven't been camping for a long time, I obviously never went to girl's camp in this stake and they have a totally different way of doing things..... And because I will be gone for 10 days to Russia just to get back 6 weeks before Girl's camp.... and then take off another 4 days. I am not exactly sure how that is going to work, but I warned the stake and I guess I'll just do the best I can.... regardless what happens I actually am becoming more excited about the idea, especially where I currently am in the Primary, so it will be good to reconnect with the youth again.
EXCITING NEWS: I only have 2 months left in my CFY!!!! WOO HOO!!!! I can hardly believe it! 2 more months (a several hundred dollars in payment) and I will no longer have to sign: Dana Wright, MS, CF-SLP.... but Dana Wright, MS, CCC-SLP..... THAT will be a good day. Not to mention.... A Pay raise? Can't wait to be all independent and "growed up".
Congrats on almost being done with your CFY! I'm so excited to graduate but then I think how I still have to do my CFY. It's a bummer how we're still not officially SLPs after we graduate. Way to go!
ReplyDeleteUmmm...wow. That computer is a bit larger than your old laptop, huh? lol! I like your kitchen table :) Can't wait to sit at it and have you cook for us someday soon! ;)
