Playing Catch-up on 2014, Part 3 (Mid July through August)

July 2014 (continued)
This is the first week or two with the baby:
Leidy's first time meeting the baby.
Good thing I had practice using this wrap beforehand...

Yes…. Jason accidentally ripped his cord off during a diaper change.  Whoops. There was a little mucus, but no profound bleeding or complications, thank heavens!
Documenting that he REALLY DID used to have dark hair! And a decent amount of it!
Visiting Daddy at work on his birthday
First time out (kind of) in public

Newborn Photos:
The photographer said she always plans on about 3.5 hours for a newborn photoshoot because newborns are kind of on their “own schedule.”  BOY was she right.  I showed up with Lucas and all of his props for the pictures. He was awake and hungry, so I proceeded to nurse him, thinking he would fall asleep afterwards as he usually does. Alas, twas not so.  Not only did he wake up, but he stayed awake for 3 and ½ hours!!! What 5 day old baby stays awake for 3 1/2 hours??!!! The photographer and myself were taking turns rocking, bouncing, patting, walking, swinging him in his car seat, and eventually a 30 minute drive.  None of these tactics worked.  The thing that was interesting, is that he wasn't even crying or upset. He was just awake, alert, looking around, and VERY wiggly, which made pictures nearly impossible.  Thus the reason I had to work so hard to get him to sleep.  I was feeling very stressed when he was not falling asleep as the photographer was just waiting.  He usually would fall asleep during truck rides, but not this time.  Not only did he NOT fall asleep, but after about 25 minutes he began to scream at full volume.  I called the photographer on my way back to the studio to pick up the diaper bag and my belongings. I was about to cancel the pictures altogether when I arrived. I turned off the truck-- Baby was still screaming at full volume--I walked around and opened the door to get him out and all of the sudden, he went dead silent. It had been 3 ½ hours of trying to get him to sleep, and just when I finally gave up on the idea of getting him to sleep for pictures... he INSTANTLY zonked; Little Stinker.
The photographer said she had NEVER photographed a baby before that was so alert and fought going to sleep for so long because they didn’t want to miss out on anything like he did… and she photographs newborns for a living. Once he was finally asleep, he slept like a champ through several positioning, hat, blanket, and prop changes. The interesting thing, was the photographer wouldn’t let me help with any of the changes because she said baby would recognize my scent and it might wake you up.   We were taking pictures for about an hour and a half, but then adding in the 3.5 hours of waiting for him to fall asleep, we were with the photographer for 5 hours!!! However, when all was said and done, we got some great pictures that we ended up hanging in his nursery. Here are what the birth announcements looked like:
So peaceful… You would have NO IDEA what it took us to get to this point had I not described in detail! lol.

The Barbers came to visit
Emery and Lucas are destined to be best buddies, because their moms are :).  Technically they were destined to be college roommates--at BYU Hawaii because the Barbers just couldn't fathom their own flesh and blood attending BYU-Provo--but the kabosh was quickly placed on that idea when we found out Lucas was a Boy…. co-ed dorms don't really fly… unless they're married… hey! Now we're talking!!!! ;)
It was a SUPER quick trip, but it was SOOO great to see them, and fun to take this picture to document how much babies grow in just 4 months!  Son--- you better start drinking more of that cream so Emery won't be able to whoop all over you!

We went out without the baby for the first time
Nana (Jason's mom) made as special trip up to spend some time with her newest grandson. We were SO happy to see her, and she was fabulous with the baby.  She even watched him for a few hours so we could get out of the house and go to the temple to support Sid while she went through the temple for the first time before her wedding.
We love you Nana!

August 2014
Dual Weddings!  Jared and Sam both got married!!!  It was a crazy month for us and this little guy accordingly.

Jared/Sidney's Wedding:
Because Jared and Sidney got married in SLC, it gave us an opportunity to show the baby to Jason's family members.  This is Lucas meeting his cousin Gage for the first time…. Looks like they are both terrified. LoL.
These are some of Lucas' first smiles--caught on camera.
Lucas and Leidy hanging out
and napping….  Baby and Puppy Life is so rough, huh?

Baby getting ready for his first trip to the Lake the Saturday after Jared/Sid's wedding :)… And you can start to see his bilateral dimples emerging.  So dang cute.
So, yes… We finally got back to the lake for the first time since Lucas was born.  It was only 4 weeks postpartum for me and I wasn't quite ready to get back in the water at that point.
Spending some quality time with his Aunt Natali
As you can see… Lucas didn't love the 80 degree water…. "You mean mommy!"
Saved by Daddy
And He LOVED the warm sun….. too bad he is so pale and still has to stay in the shade MOST of the time to avoid being burned!! Haha.

The VERY NEXT WEEK…
Sam/Melissa's Wedding:

I love that Jason's opened mouth is almost as large as the baby's head in this picture! HAHAHA
But the next week, at 5 weeks postpartum, I was feeling more adventurous.  It felt SO GOOD to get
back in the water! And you know… I still wasn't sleeping as much as I would have liked, was adjusting to motherhood, and another human being who was COMPLETELY dependent on me… but being out there and surfing let me know that I was indeed still alive!!  I was a little timid at first (as you'll  be able to see), but quickly got back in my groove. I had posted this short video like this on Instagram… Hopefully it works on here:
